This was disclosed by the Minister of Trade and Investment, Olusegun Aganga while speaking to journalists at the State House, Monday, after a meeting between government and some private sector players in the cement sector to iron out modalities for the take over Nigerian government shares in the Onigbola Cement factory, a joint venture entity between the federal government  Benin Republic.

The Minister said the meeting was to ensure “that the post Privatization takes place the way there should, that the transfer to the private sector is effective and we want to make sure that the management and control in of that cement factor is as it should be as agreed with the Benin government”.

He further disclosed that government’s efforts to boost local production has forced down importation as well as increase job created locally from the ventures.
“The importation of cement come down for example because no importation at all in 2012.  it saved us N300 billion, adding that Textile and vegetable oil import have  also fallen by at least 56  and 52 per cent, respectively.

He said claims that there was a shortfall in the supply of cement was not true adding that  if all the cement factories in the country was working in full capacity, the country will be producing 26, 28 million tones of cement.
