Samsung shows off ‘unbreakable’ phone which rolls up like paper

Samsung shows off 'unbreakable' phone which rolls up like paper

The samsung phone screen uses the same OLED – organic LED – technology as many current smartphones, but encased in plastic instead of glass. Samsung wowed an audience in Las Vegas this week with a working mobile phone screen which can be rolled and unrolled like a sheet of paper. The screen kept working as it was rolled and unrolled – showing off that it is far more flexible than previous ‘bendable’ screens. The screen uses the same OLED – organic LED – technology as many current smartphones, but encased in plastic instead of glass. The prototype device is built…

iPhone 5 processor to be based on the quad-core Exynos 4, phones with Qualcomm quad-cores coming in Q4

The quad-core smartphone family will be extended in the fourth quarter, says Digitimes, on account of the new Apple iPhone, and Qualcomm‘s quad-core chipsets entering devices for the holiday shopping craze. It isn’t exactly a revelation that Apple might place such a chip in its iPhone 5, since we heard rumors that Cupertino’s engineers are testing the next generation A6 with four processor cores at the TSMC foundry earlier this year. Actually we last heard that Samsung will be producing the A6, and now the sources confirm that this quad-core A6 is none other, but modified quad-core Exynos 4 series,…

Is Samsung Galaxy S3 The 'iPhone killer' ?

The smartphone market moves on once more, with the hi-tech voice-controlled Galaxy S3 likely to becomes a standard-bearer for Google’s Android operating system – and a device for the Apple refuseniks. The phone’s most innovative feature is built-in face-tracking and voice control – allowing, Samsung claims, for a more ‘natural’ control system.Other innovations include what Samsung claims is a ‘more intelligent’ lock system, that keeps the screen ‘awake’ when the phone’s camera senses eyes watching it, rather than turning it off. The voice control system is called S Voice – and allows access to weather forecasts, web searches and scheduling,…

Apple Wins Injunction Against Galaxy Nexus

A California court has granted Apple an injunction against Samsung over sales of its Galaxy Nexus smartphones in the U.S. The injunction was handed down on Friday afternoon by the same California court that earlier this week issued an injunction against sales of Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1. It will go into effect as soon as Apple posts a US$96 million bond that will be used toward any damages sustained by Samsung if the injunction is subsequently found to be erroneously enjoined, according to a report by Reuters. Friday’s ruling centers on U.S. Patent 8,086,604, which covers a user interface for conveniently…

Apple and Samsung Garner 50% of Global Smartphone Market and 90% of Its Profits

Although smartphone shipments grew 41% year-over-year to 144.6 million as of the quarter ending March 2012, many smartphone OEMs are not enjoying the benefits of a rapidly expanding market. Samsung and Apple captured 55% of global smartphone shipments in 1Q’2012 and over 90% of the market’s profits.  The question remains: can anyone break away to become a strong third in this market? Of the top ten smartphone OEMs, only Samsung and Sony experienced sequential growth in shipments over 4Q’2011. Nokia witnessed a 40% sequential decline in shipments and may soon be passed by ailing RIM in shipments despite the BlackBerry…
